Everything begins with a conversation, not a technique. You describe what has
brought you here — the concern as you experience it, how long it has been present, and
what you would like to be different.
What you would like to explore, in your own words
What you have already tried, and how it went
Any questions or reservations you hold about the process
Nothing is agreed at this stage. Understanding comes first.
At this stage
“Context is what turns a general concern into a specific one.”
Daily circumstances and pressures
Sleep, routine and workload
Support already available around you
Any professional care you are already receiving
02
Context
The same concern rarely means the same thing for two people. Understanding your
circumstances — what your week actually looks like, what has changed recently, what
support exists around you — shapes whether and how hypnotherapy may be appropriate.
If you are already under the care of a doctor or a mental health
professional, that is relevant and worth mentioning. Hypnotherapy does not replace
that care.
03
Personalisation
An approach is then considered for you specifically: the pace, the emphasis, the way
the session is framed, and what will be worked with first. This is discussed with you
rather than decided on your behalf.
What the session will involve, explained beforehand
What will not be included, if something does not suit you
How many sessions may be worth considering, discussed honestly
An individual session in progress. Client identity is protected.
04
The guided session
Hypnotherapy techniques are used at this stage: guided attention, relaxation,
imagery and suggestions agreed with you in advance. Most people describe a state of
focused attention rather than sleep — aware of the room, aware of the conversation, and
able to speak.
You remain a participant throughout
You can pause, ask a question, or stop at any point
Individual experiences of this stage vary considerably
Questions asked here
What did you notice during the session?
Was there anything uncomfortable or unexpected?
Did anything feel useful, or worth returning to?
What would you want done differently next time?
There is no correct answer to any of these. Your description is the useful one.
05
Reflection
Afterwards, there is time to talk about the experience — what you noticed, what felt
comfortable, and what did not. This matters as much as the session itself, because it
shapes what happens next and keeps expectations grounded in your actual experience.
06
Next steps
Progress is reviewed against what you originally described, not against a general
standard. From there, next steps are considered: continuing, pausing, spacing sessions
differently, or concluding.
Continuing is a decision each time, never an assumption
Where another form of qualified support seems more appropriate, that is said plainly
Individual experiences and outcomes can vary
Consistent Throughout
What stays the same at every stage
The process adapts to the person. These points do not.
01
You are informed
What is going to happen is explained before it happens, in plain language.
02
You can stop
Pausing, asking a question or ending a session is always available to you.
03
Confidentiality is respected
What you discuss is treated with professional discretion.
04
Expectations stay realistic
No guaranteed outcomes are offered, at any stage, for any concern.
Hypnotherapy is not a replacement for medical or mental health care. Where a concern may
require qualified healthcare support, that is discussed openly and directly.
Next Step
Step one is a conversation. Start there.
Share what you would like to explore and any questions you have about the process
itself.
